Breath of the Wild was featured in the inaugural set of games included in Nintendo’s Alarmo clock. In many ways, this was the obvious choice given the game’s popularity, recency, and inclusion of extensive voice acting. Princess Zelda’s bid of “Open your eyes” and “Wake up, Link!” are the perfect additions to an alarm clock featuring the Zelda series. Nintendo has vowed that more games are coming, which will undoubtedly focus on bringing in other franchises first – starting with Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. However, hopefully Nintendo will circle back around to other games in the Zelda series with future updates.

A common trope in the series is Link waking up near the start of the game.  Sometimes he is depicted as a lazy kid who sleeps in late, and other times he is roused awake after being knocked unconscious from an accident or attack. Of the many which include a wakeup sequence, which Zelda game would be the best one to add first?

Ocarina of Time seems like a quality candidate with the game’s early scenes of Navi flying into Link’s treehouse to stir him after the Deku Tree’s dire plea. Though the game didn’t include the extent of voice acting that Breath of the Wild did, Navi does have a few memorable lines clamoring for Link’s attention. The game’s soundtrack and sound effects laid the groundwork for so much of the later series, and they are well-known and cherished by fans.

The Wind Waker is another option as play starts with Aryll waking up her elder brother who is napping atop the perch of Outset Island’s lookout tower. The strings and flutes accompanied by the sounds of waves are calming themes integrated throughout the entire soundtrack, and they seem like a great way to gently be woken up to greet the day by Alarmo.

Skyward Sword is another one to consider adding to the fold. It also includes a wakeup sequence as Fi’s voice calls out within Link’s nightmare of the Imprisoned and the rustling of Princess Zelda’s Loftwing outside his window literally knocks Link out of his bed and onto the floor. The letter that her Loftwing delivers even draws attention to the fact that she considers Link to be a “sleepyhead” and her intuition that her letter will serve as his alarm clock that day. The game also boasts one of the best soundtracks of the series with its soaring ballads.

Not to mention the wakeup sequences at the beginning of A Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, The Minish Cap, etc.

Which Zelda game with a wakeup sequence would you like to see added to Alarmo next? Would one of the games discussed above make a great fit, or are there others from the series you would prefer? Let us know in the comments below.
