We’ve talked at length over the years about how much joy and frustration we have gotten out of remakes – heck, we’ve done this with the original games themselves. What we haven’t done much of is compare, contrast, and settle on which version of games that have been remade or remastered we actually prefer. What better way to start this than with Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time 3D. We’re going to toss in Ocarina of Time: Master Quest that was released only on the GameCube as well, simply because it’s vastly different from the Master Quest that appeared in the 3DS version.

Personally, I prefer Ocarina of Time 3D. I don’t rank Ocarina of Time nearly as high as most do, but the original releases controls didn’t feel extremely tight to me. This is what gives the nod to the 3DS version overall – while I loved the visual upgrades, ultimately the controls felt a lot tighter and more responsive in Ocarina of Time 3D. That version of the game also included a Master Quest (hero mode) style play through. Now, Master Quest for the GameCube is actually the hardest legit version of Ocarina of Time to exist, but it suffers from the same control issues I had in the original game.

Oddly enough, the control issues were mostly fixed in Majora’s Mask. Either way, it’s time to settle this once and for all – which of the 3 major versions of Ocarina of Time do you prefer?
