Daily Debate: Which Temple in Ocarina of Time had Your Favorite Musical Theme?
Posted on April 27 2018 by Kat Vadam
Ocarina of Time has, arguably, some of the best music in the entire Zelda series. Memorable numbers such as “Hyrule Field,” “Saria’s Song,” “Epona’s Song,” and, of course, the “Title Theme” have kept this game’s soundtrack alive and loved for twenty years. Many songs in Ocarina of Time have been in the roots of future Zelda games’ soundtracks.
For me, personally, some of the best songs in Ocarina of Time were its renditions of the temple themes. They were the backdrop to each movement, casting feelings of worry, intensity, even thrill into game play that would not have been there otherwise. I remember the first time I walked into the Temple of Time to a Gregorian-style chant, I just stood there for a minute listening to the song, fascinated. It felt ethereal, otherworldly, really bringing me into the game in that moment. It was then that I think I really began to appreciate the game’s music, and all that it added to my experience. I did not think a song could top that–until I discovered the Spirit Temple. With it’s slow, almost sultry progression and pronounced beats, this theme felt exotic and mystical, transporting me to a world of mirrors and light.
