The Zelda series features some character designs in tribute to their other iconic properties, such as Ocarina of Time‘s Talon’s uncanny resemblance to Mario. I’ve always liked seeing the little nods to other familiar faces, and it would be great to see more variety of Mario series inspired side characters. If I could pick a character design from the Mario games to be incorporated into a Zelda game, my first pick would be Rosalina. Easily my favorite character from the Mario series, what made her stand out for me was her tragic backstory. The simple but powerful emotions in the story brilliantly developed her motivations and made her a strong and compassionate supporting character.

It’s because of all of these qualities that I would love to see a character in the Zelda universe inspired by her distinctive design and quiet, but strong-willed personality. She would fit right in at an observatory, or maybe forlorn ruins during a starry night. Or, based on this concept art from Super Mario Odyssey that I desperately wish was real, she could be a folk bard searching for her family. She could play her storybook theme on her guitar…Now I’m overthinking how great this would be, but the point is that the possibilities are endless. What do you think? If you could pick a character design from the Mario games and use it for a character in the Zelda series, who would it be? Let us know in the comments!
