The closest that the Zelda series and Fire Emblem have crossed over is through the Super Smash Bros. franchise and the Warriors games developed by Koei Tecmo. While it’s always to fun Link and Marth duke it out in Smash Bros., and the Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors games are entertaining spinoffs, it would be great to see the franchises crossover even more. My answer for this? A Fire Emblem character in a Zelda game! After all, Fire Emblem’s medieval, fantasy setting is a perfect fit for the tone and feel of the Zelda series.

The Fire Emblem series has a huge roster of characters rich with personality and tragic backstories, so picking just one has actually been really challenging as it turns out, so I’m picking two. First is Anna – the perky shopkeeper, she’s been a Fire Emblem regular since the series’ inception and could easily be inserted in a Zelda game as a traveling merchant (like Beedle in Breath of the Wild) and she could fight to defend herself from monsters. With Anna’s snarky, tough personality and constant pursuit to earn the most Rupees, she’d fit right in. My second choice is one of the main leads from the newly released Fire Emblem Three Houses, Claude. The success of the game is huge and represents a bold new age for the franchise. The reason I pick Claude rather than one of his rivals is because of the nature of his country’s alliance. It isn’t a traditional monarchy, and it could create some interesting conflict with Hyrule if, say, their nations came into conflict. Plus, personality-wise, he’d be an interesting addition in the Zelda series. Unlike many of the morally righteous, goody-two-shoes characters the series is known for, he’d be closer to how Ravio was in A Link Between Worlds, embracing a level of selfishness and manipulation to get his way. Charismatic and witty, Claude would be a great choice for a crossover character in a more politically-centric conflict.

What do you guys think? Which Fire Emblem character would you pick to crossover in a Zelda game? Let us know in the comments!
