For many people across the world, August and September represent the return to school. Even amidst the current Covid-19 health crisis, thousands of students are returning to school either remotely or in person. As a middle school teacher, I’ve spent a lot of time keeping my students occupied during indoor recess and down time, with many students frequently requesting to watch animated films.  In particular, classic and modern Disney films always end up being crowd pleasers among students.

While watching Tangled for the first time (a recommendation from my students), I was struck by how much Mandy Moore’s Rapunzel reminded me of Zelda in Skyward Sword. In terms of each character’s appearance, both have bright hair, expressive faces, and pink dresses. Additionally, both Zelda and Rapunzel have joyful, endearing personalities that make you want to root for them through their stories. The writers and animators of each property did such an exceptional job of bringing these characters to life.

With that in mind, which female Disney characters remind you of the different version of Zelda? Overall, I am not a Disney expert, so I am looking to the community to help discuss more parallels between Disney characters and Princess Zelda. There have been so many different versions of Zelda which are quite distinct in look and personality. While some are imposing and regal, others are down to earth and extremely approachable. Likewise, there have been a diverse group of female protagonists within Disney movies. One parallel that stood out to me was Breath of the Wild‘s Zelda and Elsa from Frozen. Both characters struggle with their role and powers through their adventures and ultimately, as a comparison, I couldn’t “let it go”.

What do you think? What female Disney characters remind you of the different versions of Zelda? Let us know in the comments below?
