Daily Debate: Which Dragon Do You Rate In the Zelda Series?

Ever since I was a kid, dragons have always fascinated me. Being part of Zelda myth and folklore, they have turned up in quite a few games in the series. Sometimes found as enemies for Link to vanquish, they are quite imposing. The first time I saw Volvagia in Ocarina of Time sent a shiver down my spine. But dragons for the most part, aren’t Link’s enemy. Until recently, my favourite dragon was Valoo from The Wind Waker. I think having the guts to try and toast Ganondorf at point blank range made me respect him a lot.

As some folks know, I’ve been playing Skyward Sword for the first on the Wii. In this game there be dragons of a completely different sort! Lanayru, Faron and Eldin are the protectors of their respective lands on The Surface. I love the design of these dragons, so different from the traditional medieval dragons that I remembered as a kid. Those long flowing robes and tails just showed how massive they were in comparison to Link himself. I really enjoyed seeing them on screen and singing their parts of the Song of the Hero. Shame we don’t get to spend much time with Eldin, but who knows? Maybe they could make a come back in a future game!
