Daily Debate: Which DLC are you Looking Forward to More: The Master Trials or The Champion’s Ballad?

On their first day of E3, Nintendo decided to showcase The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s first DLC, showing gameplay of what will appear in the first DLC pack as well as showing a trailer for the second DLC pack. In celebration of both, I will give a rundown of what we know about both DLCs so that you can decide which one you’re more hyped for.

Breath of the Wild‘s first DLC pack, the Master Trials, adds in several new armors, items, and features. Specifically, the armors being added are Zelda’s Phantom Armor from Spirit Tracks, Majora’s Mask from Majora’s Mask, Tingle’s outfit from The Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask, Midna’s Helmet from Twilight Princess, and the Korok Mask, which can detect nearby Korok Seed opportunities (though I would still recommending using our Interactive Map to find them). Two new features that are added are the Hero’s Path, which allows players to view where Link has been over the past 200 hours of gameplay, and the Travel Medallion, which lets you set a fast-travel point on the map that you can warp back in the same way you can warp to different shrines. Finally, the two semi-titular features added are the Trial of the Sword, a series of challenges that task the player with surviving with no armor, weapons, materials, food, or abilities, and Master Mode, the Hero Mode of Breath of the Wild that also has its own separate save file (and also appears to have a new gold variant for all of the enemies). Overall, The Master Trials adds more features that are helpful for completionists as well as provide a new challenge for people who have already completed the game.

By contrast, not much new was revealed regarding Breath of the Wild‘s second DLC, The Champion’s Ballad. While it was already confirmed to contain a new story as well as a new dungeon, the trailer revealing it seems to heavily indicate that it will revolve around the 4 Champions of Breath of the Wild and, oddly enough, might be initiated by talking with Kass, the traveling Rito minstrel, based off the dialog that appears.
