In many ways, Twilight Princess serves as a spiritual successor to Ocarina of Time. The return of an older Link and Zelda, its more traditional interpretation of Hyrule, its dungeons– the list goes on. As my all-time favorite video game, Twilight Princess stands perfectly on its own, but certain elements are clearly meant to evoke nostalgia for Link’s first 3D quest.

Chief among these elements, perhaps, is the wide array of locales Link and Midna visit throughout their adventure. The game has its share of wholly original scenery– particularly the Twilight Realm itself– but many of the game’s tourist attractions are re-imaginings of places we visited in Ocarina of Time.

Which one did it best, though? For me, it’s got to be Zora’s Domain. Compared to its N64 counterpart, it boasts a much greater sense of grandeur. The elegant throne room coupled with the row of waterfalls– it’s something to behold. Every time I replay Twilight Princess, I’m awestruck as soon as I set foot in that place– you know, once the ice has melted and the light is restored. For my money, it’s still the definitive Zora’s Domain.
