It’s no secret by now for long time fans that Zelda games often come in pairs. From Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, to Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass, and of course, the original Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link.

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom seem to be following this same format, sharing a large number of overlapping elements. This means that, in order to keep the series fresh, the games that follow will probably be quite different in some way. Whether that means shaking up the gameplay once again, or taking us to a fresh location like Termina or the Great Sea, the possibilities are countless.

Personally, though I enjoyed the open world freedom of Breath of the Wild, I do miss many of the classic gameplay elements such as dungeons and unique items required to progress, like the Hookshot. I also wouldn’t mind visiting somewhere beyond Hyrule to shake things up again. Perhaps another unique villain like Majora or Ghirahim could take centre stage, and let Ganondorf take a back seat for a while.
