I’ll admit that I pretty quickly jumped onto the hate bandwagon for Breath of the Wild. To me, it did not feel like the Zelda game that I wanted, and at the time, I was unwilling to give props where props should have been given. Despite my general dislike of the storyline and some aspects of the gameplay, there were some good features introduced and I don’t know how I lived without them before.

I recently started a new play-through of Twilight Princess on the Gamecube, and this is when I realized how much I missed some of those Breath of the Wild features. Of course, making games is about moving forward and adding more features, and making the interface more user friendly, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are some features that I miss while playing Twilight Princess.

Most notably, I miss the stealth element. There’s something about sneaking around enemies to deal the most amount of damage that adds an air of realism. Having to run full force into combat in Twilight Princess seems like a lost opportunity to me. Another thing I miss from Breath of the Wild is the alert system. Having the question marks over an enemy’s head that fills up the more alerted they became was such a wonderful and useful feature. There are instances in Twilight Princess where you have to sneak around characters without drawing their attention, but it’s unknown to us the radius at which their attention fills. I think I can do without this feature more-so than the stealth element, but it undoubtably makes life easier.

Twilight Princess still remains my favorite game in the Legend of Zelda series, but it’d be wonderful to see these features implemented into a remaster. Though I still am not the biggest fan of Breath of the Wild, I have to give kudos to the makers of the game, because they really added some incredible mechanics that I hope will continue to be used in future titles.

What are your favorite features that were introduced in Breath of the Wild?  Are there any features that you miss when playing older Zelda games? Let us know in the comments below!
