Daily Debate: What’s the Weirdest Moment in the Zelda Series?
Posted on December 21 2020 by Emi Curtis
Picture it, you’re going along with your quest, one to save Hyrule and rescue Princess Zelda and… Suddenly something really unexpected happens. You’re zapped for shoplifting, a man in spandex appears selling maps, you paid the Great Fairy to improve your gear only to get snogged. There’s no shortage of incredibly jaw-dropping moments in Zelda that make you ask “What in King Daphnes’ name just happened?” But the question is, which is the absolute weirdest moment of all?
With entire games like Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland and Link: The Faces of Evil being made up of “What the korok?” moments, settling on an exact moment isn’t really a simple task. Put frankly, Zelda games get really freaking weird sometimes. Throughout it’s entire series, Zelda games have seen marriages between a person turned into a child, a recurring phrase of “It’s a secret to everybody”, and a hand that resides inside of a toilet asking for paper. Not to mention a number of uh… more adult references that tend to come out of nowhere a lot of the time.
As far as I go, I think the weirdest moment for me had to be when I was playing Ocarina of Time for the first time as wee little one. I had gotten to Kakariko Village and what do you know, there’s a chicken right in front of me. So I goof around with the Cucco for awhile, being a kid, and I begin to find it amusing that the Cucco gets so upset when I hit it with my sword. What came next traumatized me though. Cuccos everywhere. Descending upon me like it’s an Alfred Hitchcock movie. I was dead in seconds and traumatized. Never again I told myself. Never again would I question the awesome might of the Cucco…
So what was your weirdest moment in Zelda? What is the weirdest game in the entire series to you? Let us know in the comments below!
