Daily Debate: What Zelda Game is the Most Tedious?
Posted on August 03 2021 by Chakell Herbert
The Zelda series isn’t known to be too difficult, but I think we can agree that there are some segments of different games in the series that are quite tedious — ahem, Skyward Sword’s repetitive Imprisoned battles, anyone? But what games are notorious for having the most tedious quests?
Don’t get me wrong, every game in the Zelda series is crafted so well, and they are all polished, satisfying adventures. But, for me, there is one game that always brings up complicated emotions which keeps it from snagging a spot on my top 5 favorite Zelda games list: Majora’s Mask.
Now before you die-hard fans start lining up at my door with valid disagreements, let me just tell you, I do think this game is pretty fantastic. Majora’s Mask is a deep, unique masterpiece that was created within a single year (a fact that still blows my mind), but this journey with Link always proves to be extra tedious for me. For one, if you slip up just once during certain segments (curse you, Anju and Kafei quest), or if you take too much time (I ran out of time during my first run in the Stone Tower temple), you have to playback time and repeat all the progress you just made, which can be oh-so-frustrating.
But again, when you think of the overall unsettling and frantic atmosphere of the game, the tedious parts just sort of add to the overall brilliance of this anxiety-inducing adventure. You truly feel like you are running out of time, which is a common theme in video games, but this time it’s actually true! There’s no room for mistakes or mercy in Termina — which is probably why the game stands out as one of the best in some people’s eyes! But I rest my case.
What are your thoughts on the most tedious adventure with Zelda and Link? Do you agree with me? Or is there another game that irks you? Let me know in the comments!
