Daily Debate: What Would the Zelda Gaming Landscape Look Like if The Wind Waker 2 Happened Instead of Twilight Princess?

There’s no doubt in my mind that I absolutely love The Wind Waker. It’s not only one of my favorite Zelda games, but one of my favorite video games of all-time. Part of me was kind of sad to find out that a planned sequel for it never happened. Nintendo instead worked on what we know today as Twilight Princess. A game that brought back the series to a tone, fans had been craving for since that Space World 2000 demo.

I mean for fans of The Wind Waker we did get a sequel of sorts in the form of Phantom Hourglass. But just thinking about what would’ve been a fully fledged console sequel though leads me to think about something. What would’ve happened if they did push forward with The Wind Waker 2?

I mean Toon Link riding on a horse of all things was apparently one of the reasons the game never saw the light of day. However, what if they ignored that? What if we took everything they did with Twilight Princess and converted it all into the similar styles of The Wind Waker?

What would the Zelda gaming landscape look like today if The Wind Waker 2 happened? How would games like Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, and A Link Between Worlds look and play if this occurred? I honestly think there wouldn’t be that dramatic of shifts, but there would be some slight tweaks with future Zelda titles.
