Last week, we asked about your most disappointing plot moments in the Zelda series. Many of you expressed your disappointment with such things as Zant’s character in Twilight Princess, missed romances in Skyward Sword, my knowledge of the Triforce, and much more. Today, however, we want to steer the conversation to more positive things and ask about your most fulfilling plot moments in the Zelda series.

Fulfillment in a game’s plot can come from a variety of different things: a character’s growth may conclude in an emotional way, a lingering question from games past may find resolution, or an event may call-back to a satisfying part of Zelda lore. For me, the most fulfilling moments in the series come when a game references the stories of previous titles. For example, I was very excited when Link travelled to Hyrule for the first time in Wind Waker. I was initially disappointed that the game abandoned the setting of Hyrule for the very different Great Sea, but eventually found myself overjoyed when Link was transported to the lost kingdom. The music and stain-glassed windows referencing the sages of Ocarina of Time were great touches too.

I was also fulfilled when Link explored the Temple of Time in Twilight Princess. Again, I found myself excited when the game referenced — right down to the original music track — the story and setting of Ocarina of Time. Allowing the player to revisit the temple in this way thus added significance and lore that were not seen originally.
