In the last chronological memory of Breath of the Wild, Princess Zelda returns the Master Sword to rest in Korok Forest until Link returns. Zelda, given the prompt by the sword itself, is determined to go to the castle alone and use her newfound sealing power to keep Calamity Ganon at bay. Before she plunges the sword into the pedestal, however, she starts to relay a message for Link to the Great Deku Tree. Zelda only manages to say, “Tell him I–” before the tree interrupts her, telling her that her words would sound better to Link in her voice. She agrees with the Great Deku Tree with a nod, therefore deciding against it.

I think Zelda’s message was something along the lines of a confession of her feelings for Link. This is because Kass’ last song reveals that “the princess’s love for her fallen knight” is what awakened her power. I believe Zelda feared her battle to seal Ganon in the castle may fail and she wanted Link to know of her affection for him. The Great Deku Tree told her to save it for Link’s ears, not only to instill her with the hope that she may survive, but to also allow the future moment to be shared between only them. Although this moment did not occur in the ending of Breath of the Wild, perhaps it will occur in Breath of the Wild 2.

What do you think? What message did Zelda have for Link? Do you want her to relay it in the sequel or is it better left open-ended? Let us know in the comments below!
