Daily Debate: What Switch Games Do You Want to Clear Out of Your Backlog Before the Switch 2’s Release?
Posted on May 09 2025 by Nick Miller

The Switch era is coming to a close. We’re less than a month out from release of the Switch 2, and the clock is ticking fast. This final month is a great opportunity to reflect on the game’s that defined the Nintendo Switch for you, the memories you’ve made, and the games in your backlog that you still haven’t gotten around to playing.
A backlog is a pile of good intentions. These are the games that you plan on playing but just haven’t finished yet. Maybe you started a game but lost momentum and moved onto something else. Maybe there’s just too much to play and the game still sits up on your shelf wrapped in plastic. No matter the reason, the time between now and when the new console releases is a great chance to tie up those loose ends and start of the next console generation with a clean slate.
So, what Switch games do you want to clear out of your backlog before the Switch 2’s release?
Looking at my own backlog, it’s almost impressive to see how many retro game collections were released on the Switch. On my list, I have the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Collection of Mana, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Mega Man X Legacy Collection. For each of these, I’ve completed one or more games but have yet to finish the whole collection (and I’ll be darned if I’m going to play Mega Man X7 and X8). The only one of these I intend to finish playing before the month is through is The Cowabunga Collection. Most of the others are role-playing games and I just don’t have time to tackle one of those right now as I’m fully invested in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The Cowabunga Collection is just the only game in my backlog that I could reasonably see myself finishing within the month.
Now let’s hear your thoughts. What Switch games do you want to clear out of your backlog before the Switch 2’s release? Are there any games in your backlog that you have no intention of playing? Do you have any game that you want to finish but can’t because they’re just too difficult? Let us know in the comments below.
