For many, puzzles are an important part of the whole Zelda experience. Engaging the old gray matter can be a welcome break from fighting endless monsters, and when linked with the theme of a dungeon, adds to the player’s enjoyment. Admittedly, not all puzzles in Zelda are popular and everyone has a different mindset. Push block puzzles might be heaven for someĀ fans and a complete nightmare for others. But, if Nintendo asked you to design a new puzzle for a Zelda dungeon, what sort would you come up with? That is our daily debate today.

Personally, I’d welcome a puzzle that requires the player to become a detective. An example of this could be a quest to find out who was responsible for breaking the curse seal. As Link explores the dungeon, he finds clues with additional information about the inhabitants and their testimony. If you’ve ever played Cluedo or picked up a Logic Puzzle book, you’ll know what I’m talking about. By reading diary entries and speaking to people, you can narrow down who was responsible. Finally, you are able to reveal who committed the crime, with the criminal turning out to be the dungeon boss of course! For replay value, they could make the criminal different each time with a completely new boss battle.

So, what sort of puzzle would you design for a Zelda dungeon? Would you take advantage of the motion control 3D elements? Or would you rather see more visual puzzles such as moving tiles to complete a picture? Whatever your thoughts, don’t forget to share in the comments below!
