Despite Master Kohga being the main focus of the most recent Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity teaser, the greatest takeaway was the unveiling of a new character — a black-hooded figure sporting a Gerudo crest. Who is this guy? Given that description, not to mention the Yiga troops bowing to him, we can pretty confidently say he’s a villain. That’s about all we know, but a bit of speculation every now and then is good for the soul.

Although Breath of the Wild had a big baddy in Calamity Ganon, the poisonous pig cloud was more a force of nature than an honest-to-goodness character. Beyond its cool, grotesque aesthetic, any appreciation I had for the miasmic abomination stemmed from my prior knowledge of Ganon. Not to suggest that that doesn’t count for anything, but I’d like to think Nintendo is aware of that need for a proper, charismatic villain.

Personally, my money’s on our hooded friend being the Zelda team’s answer to that. Specifically, I think we’re looking at someone who will play a similar role to Ghirahim and Zant — a harbinger for the Dark Lord’s return. Indeed, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was the Yiga’s true head honcho — the one who silently pulls the strings while the boisterous Master Kohga leads the front lines.

Fortunately, we won’t need to wait too much longer to find out, as Age of Calamity is only a little more than a month away. Even so, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What are you expecting from this hooded figure? Let us know in the comments below!
