Based on its announcement trailer alone, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity looks to have a fairly robust roster of playable characters. And though the four Champions are definitely intended to be the title’s main draw, I can’t help but wonder who else might join the fray. Throughout the story, we may take control of even more heroes and villains. Other characters, meanwhile, might only be playable in modes outside of the main campaign.

Honestly, there are very few characters I can even think of from the time period in which this game is set. Among those, however, a younger Prince Sidon sounds like the most fun. I imagine Mipha’s fighting style will be much more elegant than that of the other Champions, so differentiating her from Sidon shouldn’t be too hard. Perhaps Sidon could focus strictly on ice-based attacks while his sister specializes in water.

Thinking beyond the scope of what the main story would allow, a part of me would love to see some characters from the original Hyrule Warriors return. On the other hand, it might be best for both games to complement each other with their radically different rosters. Such an approach would give me a whole new appreciation for the original title. Call me conflicted as far as that’s concerned.

Of course, Koei Tecmo is no stranger to creating its own characters, as demonstrated by the likes of Lana and Cia. If the miniature Guardian’s placement in the artwork above is any indication, then I’d say that’s one likely candidate. Only time will tell, though.

In any case, what other playable characters would you like to see in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
