Whether you love them or hate them, trading sequences often pop up in a Zelda adventure. For those who may not know, the sequence requires you to trade a number of different items with characters across the world map.  These items can range from a Ghastly Doll, to a Postman’s Statue, Poacher’s Saw and even a Cheesy Mustache! If you manage to complete the sequence you will be rewarded with something good. And by good, I mean something like the Boomerang or Biggoron Sword.

It helps when items in the game tend to relate to the characters who inhabit that world. These “easier” trades are often with characters that you have already spoken to. One classic example is trading bananas with Kiki the monkey in Link’s Awakening. Other trades are not so obvious and require thorough exploration, such as finding the original owner of Cojiro the Cucco in Ocarina of Time.

Personally, I would like to see a Zelda trading sequence with a mix of easy and more obscure trades. You could begin with a child in the local village who is bored and you trade them a slingshot. Or trading a ‘Beauty Queen’ mask with a Redead that wishes to make friends. It depends of course on Hyrule’s terrain and the races that live there, but there is plenty of scope for an interesting trading sequence.

So, what items would you like to see in a new Zelda trading sequence? Would you use Aryll’s Telescope as a reference to other Zelda games? Or does the thought of another sequence of trades make your skin crawl? Whatever your thoughts, share them in the comments below!
