Having been understandably absent last year, E3 is set to make its grand return this weekend. With that said, now is the perfect time to reminisce on the trade shows of yesteryear — specifically, the indelible impact the Zelda series has made on the event. Indeed, since being introduced to E3 in 2005, many of my favorite announcements have revolved around the Hylian Hero’s adventures.

In fact, there are so many standout moments that, despite bringing this topic up a few years ago, I forgot to mention quite a few of them. Of course, nothing beats the pure, unbridled enthusiasm from E3 2016. Not only did it offer the first, fully-fledged showcase for Breath of the Wild, but it also remains the only time I was able to attend the event in person.

When it comes to my earlier Zelda-related E3 memories, though, there’s one that immediately comes to mind — one that I don’t hear brought up often enough: our first glimpse of what would later be known as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. There was no footage to speak of that year — only a piece of artwork featuring Link and a mysterious figure that bore a striking resemblance to the Master Sword. For as simple as this teaser image was, it sparked my imagination in a way that only the Zelda series could at the time.

As we head into what will hopefully be another memorable showcase for Zelda, I’d love to know: what are some of your fondest Zelda-related E3 memories? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
