Spoiler Alert: This article and the comments section may contain spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

While Echoes of Wisdom breaks some of the conventions and established mechanics that many players associate with the Zelda series, the new Zelda game’s approach to music can be viewed as a return to form. Recent games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom used a significant amount of ambient music and sounds from the nature to ground the player as they explored many parts of the vast open world. In contrast, Echoes of Wisdom utilizes much more clearly defined musical themes for different geographic areas; these clearly defined location themes were a common part of the Zelda series prior to Breath of the Wild. Some of these region themes have become some of the most well-known music in the Zelda series.

Reflecting on the instrumentation, arrangements, and philosophy behind Echoes of Wisdom‘s music, what is your favorite song or songs from the game?

One of my favorite songs from Echoes of Wisdom is “Jabul Waters”. Jabul Waters was the first area that I visited after completing the tutorial dungeon, and the musical theme made a powerful first impression on me. Additionally, the song’s use of acoustic guitar, soft percussion, and wind instruments makes it feel distinct from past river and lake themes.  Tri’s musical theme is another wonderful piece of music that stands out for me. Tri’s theme is both whimsical and mysterious, and it is an excellent fit for Zelda‘s ethereal companion. Finally, the theme for Hyrule Field is a beautiful tribute to past Zelda music, but it also showcases how the music of Echoes of Wisdom is pushing the series forward. The piece sounds beautiful, and it is a good representation of what fans can expect from a lot of Echoes of Wisdom‘s musical themes.
