Daily Debate: What is Your Favorite New Ability Revealed for Tears of the Kingdom?
Posted on March 29 2023 by John Piland
The recent gameplay showcase with series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed a number of new abilities for Link in the soon-to-launch Tears of the Kingdom. Four new abilities were shown:
- Recall, which reverses an object’s movement
- Fuse, which fuses items together
- Ultrahand, which lets Link create vehicles using objects in the environment
- Ascend, which allows Link to travel through the ceiling of a structure to reach the area above
Fuse and Ultrahand seem to have the most potential, being heavily centered on the player’s own ingenuity. While I enjoy the concept of creating any number of unique vehicles to traverse the world of Hyrule, Fuse takes the cake for me. Aonuma gave us the perfect tease of Fuse’s capabilities, opening our imaginations to what’s sure to be endless possibilities. I just know this ability is going to diversify combat like never before in the Zelda franchise, especially given that enemies can use fused weapons as well. I can’t wait to see all the different shield, arrow, and weapon combinations possible with overworld and inventory items.
Speaking of, I love how Fuse brings new life to the inventory. As someone who never really bothered with elixirs in Breath of the Wild, Monster Parts were never of any real use to me outside of selling them to Beedle or Kilton. Now I finally have a reason to use them, and it looks to be loads of fun. Breath of the Wild‘s combat could get stale after a while, but it looks like that won’t be an issue here — especially since Fuse can give new life to weapons near the end of their durability.
What new ability are you looking most forward to experimenting with in Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments below!
