One of Nintendo’s primary focuses when designing a Zelda game is the gameplay. Now, this might seem like a no-brainer, as a game should always have great play mechanics, right? Unfortunately not everybody shares this opinion in the industry. Fortunately for Zelda fans, Nintendo absolutely attempts to revolutionize each game in the series with new or updated gameplay mechanics.

Over the years, we’ve seen the franchise evolve from basic 8-bit, two-button action to a massive open-world adventure debuting Nintendo’s take on many popular playstyles. Some of these innovations have been massive successes and have influenced gaming for decades, such as Ocarina of Time‘s lock-on and combat system. Many also feature a companion element, some more appreciated than others such as Twilight Princess’ Midna. Of course, there is always the myriad types of puzzles and interesting tools/gadgets that Link puts to good use as well.

So here’s the question of the day; Which gameplay feature over the course of the Zelda series is your favorite and why? Let us know in the comments below!
