Whenever something is popular, there tends to be a trend where theories and rumors pop up like ninety-nine red balloons. Sometimes these theories can be well thoughtout, or at the very least, well researched. Other times, they can be baseless and/or self-contradictory.

With that in mind, I’d like to talk about the latter theories. In the case of Zelda, rumors spread like wildfire, and it’s not uncommon to be browsing the internet only to be inundated with postulates that might make sense if we were in an alternate universe. That’s not always the case though. Some of the poorer theories are couched in actually decent ideas and persuasive arguments. It’s only after careful consideration or research do they fall apart.

For example, many years ago a popular fan theory nicknamed “Link Is Dead” arose. The idea was that our hero from Ocarina of Time dies during his trek through the Lost Woods at the beginning of Majora’s Mask. This leads to the entirety of Majora’s Mask being a journey of Link’s spirit through the various stages of grief. On the surface, this seems pretty plausible and there are many arguments for it that, with a little grain of salt, make sense. Ultimately however, when you take the ending into consideration as well as various mentions in Twilight Princess into account, the theory quickly loses any traction. This isn’t even considering Nintendo flat out debunking the theory in the recent Hyrule Encylopedia.

But this is just one such theory. We now turn to you and ask: what is the worst Zelda theory? Why is it the worst? Let us debate in the comments below!
