Daily Debate: What Is The Best Boss Battle In The Zelda Series?

If there is one thing the Zelda series does right, it’s a good, old fashioned boss battle. Whether your hashing it out with Ghirahim or cutting Ganondorf down in his tracks, these games offer some epic fights. But with so many bosses to choose from, is it possible to pick your favorite? Can you decide which is the best boss battle in the Zelda series?

There is a lot to bear in mind when choosing your favorite boss battle. Naturally, the boss itself has to be impactful. For this reason, I’d personally cut Skyward Sword’s The Imprisoned from the running. Bosses in the style of Volvagia from Ocarina of Time are more my thing because they just look so cool!

Next up, I’d consider the battle arena. I’m happy enough with whatever environment the boss battle might take place in, but if I had to choose, I’d cut water-based fights from my list. That means Morpheel from Twilight Princess is out of the running.

Another important factor when deciding on the best boss battle is the strategy involved. I like a bit of strategy in my gaming, which means Moldorm from A Link Between Worlds is winning no trophies today. Just running around like a maniac to avoid that guy does nothing for me. Give me a battle like Stallord from Twilight Princess any day! I really enjoyed using the Spinner at the perfect time to knock that guy out of the air.

Finally, the last thing I’d consider is the type of game I’m playing. I’m definitely a bigger fan of the 3D Zelda games than anything else, which sadly means that Vaati is out of the question. He’s a cool boss, but there is no comparison between him and Majora from Majora’s Mask. The 3D boss battles have all the drama exactly how I like it, which narrows everything down at last.

⁶, I’ve made my choice! I think the award for the best boss battle should go to Ganondorf from Twilight Princess. The different stages of this battle are great but I particularly enjoy fighting Ganondorf one on one, in his humanoid form. The battle is pretty epic, especially because you can use the Hidden Skills to make the fight more interesting. Ganondorf offers a decent challenge, and I really felt like I’d achieved something after that final blow.
