The time-shift stones in Skyward Sword are one of the more interesting mechanics in the series, as they amount to puzzles inside the Lanayru Mining Facility and the Lanayru Sandship that require players to think outside the box. The stones are introduced within minutes of first landing in Lanayru Desert, where one strike of Link’s weaponry turns the abysmal wasteland of the present into the flourishing meadows of the past.

Besides the environment, an element that changes throughout the exploration of the area are the robots that inhabit it. In the past, they were well-functioning, vocal, and productive. However, in the present they seem to have fallen into disrepair, idle along with the rest of their technology. The reasoning given is that the region transformed into a desert over the course of several centuries, but it brings into question what could have sparked the decline of such a massive amount of technology. Especially considering that the technology once functioned so well, was there something specific that catalyzed the change?

What do you think? Was it caused by the absence of Hylia? Or was it just a change of climate? Let us know in the comments below!
