Daily Debate: What Dungeon Would You Add to Tears of the Kingdom?
Posted on January 18 2024 by Josh Wittmershaus

There has been a heavy amount of talk and criticism surrounding the dungeons/temples that were given to us in Tears of the Kingdom. Before this latest installment in the Zelda series, Nintendo had promised a return to more “traditional” dungeons, and while the temples in Tears each had creative flair, their mechanics were all very similar to the Divine Beasts in more ways than not.
For me, one of the biggest letdowns was that the number of dungeons was still restricted to seven (if you count Hyrule Castle and Gloom’s Lair, which some might consider a stretch), whereas some older editions of the franchise featured much more opportunities to crawl. It got me thinking, if there were to be an additional dungeon in Tears of the Kingdom, what would it be? Here are some ideas I’ve had:
- Forest Temple: This would be perfect for something placed in Faron, either under a waterfall or in the mouth of the Spring of Courage, where the architecture is just begging for something to be revealed behind the rock wall.
- Shadow Temple: Either in the Kakariko Village Well or somewhere in the vicinity of the town. This spooky call-back would bring some more story depth to Tears of the Kingdom.
- Ancient Observation Deck: This was a criminally underutilized area in the game, and can allow the player to explore so much more story and lore. It would make for a pretty unique dungeon, too.
Despite announcements by Nintendo signifying no DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, I think that the act of speculation as a fan has its own benefits, and I enjoy thinking about what I would have done differently or wanted to see more of out of a Zelda game.
What do you think? What dungeon would you have hoped to have seen in Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments!
