Daily Debate: What Do You Hope to Accomplish in Zelda in 2025?

With the start of a new calendar year, we often pause to think about where we want to be in our lives this time next year. We visualize what metaphorical mountains we want to climb and chart out the path and supplies needed to arrive there.
As a Zelda fan, I remember starting this journey in late 2019 after falling in love with the series with playthroughs of Breath of the Wild, the remake of Link’s Awakening on Switch, and A Link to the Past via Nintendo Switch Online (NSO). It was then that I decided I wanted to dive headlong into the series. I found the list of games featured in Zelda Dungeon’s Best Zelda Ever, and (being the nerdy engineer that I am) mapped out each game in a spreadsheet. I still use that same spreadsheet to this day to keep track of my progress of which games I own and whether I have beaten them or not.
There is still a long list of things I hope to do in Zelda, which will go beyond 2025, but below are some things that I as a fan hope to do this year as time and money allow.
- Amiibo Collecting: I always keep an eye out for when figures receive re-prints or for deals on used ones at my local retro video game stores. The Breath of the Wild series received several amiibo, and I would love to collect all of them. My recent playthrough of Age of Calamity made the four Champions even more endearing to me.
- Physical Game Cartridge/Disc Collecting: I have been slowly collecting retro Nintendo consoles and handhelds, and I would like to have physical copies of all of the games to play on them. Copies of The Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and A Link to the Past on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) are at the top of my list.
- Playing All Versions of a Game: Several games in the Zelda series have received HD or 3D remakes. While they are largely the same other than graphical improvements, I have heard some fans avidly advocate for particular versions of a game. I’ve played and completed The Wind Waker HD on Wii U, but I am interested to see how the original GameCube version plays, despite the absence of the Swift Sail and an extended quest to collect shards of the Triforce.
- 100% Completion of a Game: Many Zelda games have extensive collect-a-thons, which may or may not add to your experience of the game. One game I completed even though I didn’t collect everything in it was Majora’s Mask. I would love to go back and collect all the masks so that I can unlock the Fierce Deity Mask.
- Hard Mode Completion of a Game: Some games in the Zelda series include a “hard mode” difficulty setting, though they go by many different names. I’ve completed Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U, and I would love to experience the challenge of Hero Mode, not only for the increased difficulty but also the flipped map to escalate things.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Zelda fan in 2025? Do you have any specific goals for yourself? Are there things you want to collect? Do you have specific playthrough goals? Let us know in the comments below.
