Daily Debate: What Do You Dislike Most About Your Favorite Zelda Game?

I think it goes without saying that every game has its flaws. It’s hard to admit that something we love and enjoy has its own imperfections, even if we have to dive in and look at the nitty-gritty details. It’s easy to say what made you dislike a game, but what about the games that you love? What part of your favorite game makes you want to put the controller down and never look back? What do you dislike most about your favorite Zelda game?

Out of the games I’ve played, Twilight Princess holds the top spot on my Zelda tier list. I think, overall, it’s a fantastic game with a beautiful message, eye-catching art, and heartstring-tugging music. However, this does not mean that Twilight Princess is totally perfect. I have two bones to pick with the game, including one honorable mention. The first thing I dislike about the game is how tedious collecting the tears of light is. I hate to hate this part, especially because it makes up the entire first part of the game. It just feels repetitive to me. I personally would have liked gathering the tears in different ways for the individual provinces.

The second aspect I do not enjoy in the game is chasing Skull Kid in the Lost Woods. I think this is far more tedious than collecting the tears because it happens all in one area, and if you’re not fast enough then, well, too bad! You get to spend another five minutes on this quest. At least with collecting the tears I feel as though I’m accomplishing something. This part just feels…near pointless. The last thing I dislike about Twilight Princess is completely due to my own actions. As a child I wandered into the Cave of Ordeals one day and I realized that I had made a gigantic mistake. I wasn’t even close to finishing the game at that point, and as I went further into the cave I found that I was completely underprepared and under skilled. Traumatized, I turned off my GameCube and that resulted in my save getting corrupted. I’ve had quite the grudge against the Cave of Ordeals since. But, with all things considered, I still find myself picking up Twilight Princess every year or so to relive some of my favorite moments in the entire series.
