Among the most common criticisms surrounding Breath of the Wild’s story is the relative lack of screen time and development from the Four Champions. Indeed, I myself have brought this up ad nauseam, so I hope to shake things up a bit with this discussion. With Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, these folks are finally poised to take center stage. I mean, we’ll get to play as them!

Beyond simply giving Urbosa and company more screen time, though, I’ve been thinking about what specifically this game could do to further endear me toward them. At the very least, this game needs to foster a sense of camaraderie among these four. I’m not just referring to mid-battle quips, either, but a proper sense of fellowship and caring for one another. If this war marks their first time meeting, then it’s all the more important that we see that bond develop throughout the course of the story.

As much as I want to see the Champions come together as a unit, I’m just as eager to see how pairs of them play off of each other. How does Revali interact with Mipha, and how does that differ from how he talks to Daruk? Additionally, how do these characters get along with other denizens of Hyrule aside from Link? The latest Nintendo Treehouse presentation said we would get a good look at Urbosa’s relationship with both Zelda and Zelda’s late mother, so I’m glad to hear the developers are at least thinking about that kind of stuff.

What about you? What insight on the Champions do you hope Age of Calamity provides? Let us know in the comments below!
