After the tutorial section of Breath of the Wild, King Rhoam tells Link about the prophecy that once foretold Calamity Ganon’s return. Because the Royal Family was told that the signs of a resurrection of Calamity Ganon were clear, and the power to oppose it lay dormant beneath the ground, they found the buried Divine Beasts. Thinking that this was the necessary power, they spared no time restoring the Beasts and assigning each a champion to control it when the time came.

However, with the sequel to Breath of the Wild announced, it is apparent that the Hyrule of this era holds another secret underground. Fans speculate that the corpse in the trailer could be the mummified remains of Ganondorf. If this really is the case, the Royal Family may not have known about its existence. Thus, they may have been unaware of the mysterious green energy ebbing from a glowing green hand as well. Perhaps this could have been the power the prophecy was referring to instead?

If so, maybe the Sheikah technology was never supposed to be unearthed. Perhaps the reason it was hidden in the first place was because the king of 10,000 years ago was threatened by the Sheikah and their technological prowess. He may have feared what would become of their potential betrayal, furthermore driving the Sheikah away and burying their technology.

Although motivated by a reckless fear of the Sheikah, it is understandable that the king did not want to risk the danger of the technology being used against Hyrule. And of course, the events of Breath of the Wild proved that such an instance was, in fact, catastrophic. So, perhaps it was a mistake to dig the Divine Beasts and Guardians out again. After all, Calamity Ganon’s ability to overtake them caused much more harm than help, and, in the end, they are not even required for Link to defeat Calamity Ganon.

What do you think of the prophecy? Do you think it was misread? How do you think Link and Zelda will find out about this underground mystery? Let us know in the comments below!
