Ya haha! You found me! Buh bye!

These few simple words have been etched into the minds of so many Zelda players over the past six years. Unlike past Zelda games which featured Skulltulas or Poe souls, Breath of the Wild decided to bring back our seedy friends from The Wind Waker as a collectable. And instead of 60 or even 100, Breath of the Wild contained a whopping 900 of them!

Now Koroks as a collectable isn’t a flawed idea; it’s a actually a very interesting one. The main issue most people have is that there are far too many, and getting them all doesn’t grant any meaningful reward. The first half of the seeds collected allow the player to expand their weapon, bow, and shield stashes, but after that, the rest are effectively useless. This left players wondering what the next big collectable would be in the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. What could Nintendo possibly brew up this time with one of the most anticipated games of all time?

Koroks. Again. And this time, there’s a 1000 of them.

In all fairness, many of the Koroks have new, unique new challenges in order to get their seeds, such as the backpack Koroks that require being transported to find their friends. I also found the sky Koroks to be particularly interesting and more challenging to gather. But a large number of surface Koroks have the same puzzles as Breath of the Wild, and even some that are in the exact same locations. And once again, no Korok beyond the first half grants the player any meaningful reward.

Do you think Nintendo was lazy to bring back Koroks? Or did they do enough differently with them this time around to make them interesting? Let us know in the comments below!
