Zelda U, slated for a definite 2015 release according to Eiji Aonuma, is going to rock the socks off of many Zelda fans. This open-world adventure taking place in the land of Hyrul–er, wait a minute. Do we really know that Zelda U will be in Hyrule? Could it be in a separate kingdom, or even a separate continent?

Before the flood’s creation of the Great Sea in The Wind Waker, we don’t really know much about the land masses of the Zelda universe. The entire planet could be one land mass, surrounded by ocean or no ocean at all.

We as Zelda fans seldom think about what exists outside of Hyrule, which could lead to many players being surprised when Zelda U arrives. I believe this game could exist in a never-before-seen land.

It’s also a very good possibility that there are no established kingdoms in the landmass in which Zelda U takes place, as all the environments we have seen so far consist of large forests and mountains. Perhaps this will be a new, largely uninhabited land that Link traverses.
