Recently, I’ve been watching a playthrough of the very popular PS2/PS3 game, Shadow of the Colossus. I’ve noticed how the game revolves around defeating numerous bosses, and each boss fight can take a longer amount of time to defeat than a standard Zelda franchise boss. Watching this playthrough made me think: should Zelda U focus more on bosses and less on dungeons?

Typically, dungeons are what take up most of the player’s time in a Zelda game. This can become very frustrating for someone such as myself, who likes to focus more on not only overworld and story content, but boss fights as well. In Shadow of the Colossus, there are no dungeons; however, I’m not saying Zelda U should drop dungeons altogether. I feel as if the dungeons should become a bit shorter, and the boss fights should become a longer. I feel as if more development time should be spent on the bosses as well.

Some would say that this is a bad idea. It strays from the conventional “Zelda formula,” which Zelda fans might not like. After all, The Legend of Zelda is known for its complex and brain-teasing dungeons, filled with enormous puzzles and sentry-like enemies. Decreasing the time spent in dungeons could become a bad selling point for Zelda U itself, which may cause fans to lose interest and make Nintendo lose revenue.

Which side are you on? Would you like to see more time spent on boss fights, and less time spent on puzzles and dungeons? Give us your answer by having a friendly debate with fellow Zelda fans in the comments below.
