Alongside its open world nature, Breath of the Wild included a variety of animals that would react appropriately to Link’s presence. The game gave us deer that would flee at the sight of us, horses we could ride and tame, and dogs that we could feed… but not pet. Do you think we should be able to pet the dog in Breath of the Wild 2?

It seems like a silly request to be able to pet the dog, but being able to interact more with the animals and the environment would be pretty nice. In Breath of the Wild you could feed the dogs and they would lead you to a hidden treasure, but other than that they didn’t serve much of a purpose. Being able to pet the dog would allow for some more animal interaction.

It would be a great idea if petting the dog could lead to it becoming a companion. Just like horses, dogs could be damaged in combat, or take some terrible falls, but it would be nice to have them at your side when traveling. Dogs could play a purpose, like how the Wolf Link amiibo does. A dog could have a set amount of health and even attack enemies for you. I could see Link being able to “adopt” a dog from a village, or stable, and have it join him in his journey.

What do you think? Should you be able to pet and adopt the dogs in Breath of the Wild 2? Sound off in the comments below!
