Daily Debate: Should There Be a New Main Weapon in a Zelda Game?
Posted on November 20 2019 by Heather Beard
The Master Sword has been the staple weapon of the Zelda series time and time again. We’ve seen a few other swords featured, but the Master Sword has been the pinnacle of weapons in Zelda lore. The Legend of Zelda series has been around for 33 years; so is it time for the series to have a new main weapon?
The series has seen different instances where it has been updated or refreshed like the art style of The Wind Waker, the open world of Breath of the Wild, and the recent remake of Link’s Awakening. Link has always been equipped with a sword of some sort, and typically it’s the Master Sword once you reach a certain point in the game. As far as a new main weapon is concerned I don’t think that we should have one. A sword seems perfect for the setting of the games, the lore, and for the role of a hero. Link isn’t a Robin Hood type character equipped with a bow, he’s a man with a shield ready to fight head on. A new main weapon would seem kind of weird and unnecessary.
What do you think? Could the Zelda series benefit from a new main weapon? Sound off in the comments below!
