In recent years many Zelda games have been remade or ported for other systems. It seems like almost every Zelda game has gotten some kind of remake treatment of some sort. The latest to get the port or remake treatment is Skyward Sword that is releasing later this Summer on the Switch. Remakes, remasters, and ports have been the norm for Zelda games for the last few years. With that being said will the game that started it all, The Legend of Zelda ever be remade, and should it be remade?

You know the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” Well I think that applies to the original Zelda game. There’s something classic and nostalgic about the very first game of any series. I couldn’t even begin to fathom how they would take an 8-bit game and remaster it for a modern system. I personally have not played through The Legend of Zelda in full, but from the bits and pieces I have played there’s just not much to it, if that makes sense. There’s not a lot of story elements, cut scenes, or for lack of a better word gimmicky things that are in modern games. It’s just an adventure game. Link travels through Hyrule, there’s puzzles, enemies, dungeons, and challenges. The original game set the baseline for every game that followed. I think the only game that may break the pattern of Zelda games might be The Adventure of Link. Personally, I don’t think it should ever be fully remade for a modern system. I feel like that would take away from its original appeal. But if it were to ever be remade I would hope that it would get the same kind of treatment that the Link’s Awakening remake received, probably not the cute art style, but the 3D top down model would definitely fit if The Legend of Zelda were to ever be remade. I highly doubt that it does though, but it’s always fun to think about what may and may not be.

What do you think? Should The Legend of Zelda  ever be remade for a modern system and gaming experience? Sound off in the comments below.
