Daily Debate: Should the Next Zelda Game Explore Blins as an Evolved Species?
Posted on November 24 2024 by Judy Cooper
If Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom did one thing outside of being both works of art and gaming marvels, they drew attention to the behavior of Blins. I’ve been fascinated by the way they behave around a camp-fire, watching them laugh, bicker, and fight over food. These actions make Blins seem more evolved, and that makes me wonder if we’ll ever see them become a species more than a common enemy.
We’ve seen this before when it comes to the Zora. In earlier Zelda games, the Zora were an unfriendly bunch (until Ocarina of Time, that is). And in today’s Hyrule, they’re an important part of the kingdom, featuring heavily in the games’ plot. With this in mind, I really could see something similar happening with Blins. They obviously have some kind of community about them, with how they gather together. And while they are obviously less than smart, and follow extremely questionable leadership, Blins are clearly capable of making decisions because of this.
Personally, I’d like to see Nintendo explore the evolution of Blins in the next Zelda game. They could split Blins into factions — those who still follow the big baddie, and those who just don’t. Maybe those who don’t could be found building little houses in the countryside, or forming small villages, and they wouldn’t attack you on sight.
