In the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, Nintendo added a unique feature that we’ve never seen before in previous titles. By visiting Dampe’s Shack, the game allowed players to create and customize dungeons to their heart’s content. Personally, I’m very surprised this feature never appeared before then. With the success of the Super Mario Maker titles, it seems like an obvious addition with lots of potential, especially for the 2D games. They could even make an entire game based around this feature, and I’m sure people would buy it.

The biggest problem with this feature in Link’s Awakening is its limitations. Unlike the Super Mario Maker games, players don’t have nearly the same level of control or options when designing dungeons. The rooms are very fixed, with no option to change entrances, chests, traps, or enemies. Though I still enjoyed using it, I did feel like it needed more to be truly amazing. If Nintendo decided to implement this in future titles, or make a dedicated game for it, I think there’s a lot of potential here.
