Daily Debate: Should Marin Accompany Link on His Adventure in the Link’s Awakening Remake?

Link’s Awakening is an enduring classic in the Zelda series, and I couldn’t be more excited for its remake on the Nintendo Switch. I’m looking forward to experiencing the game again with gorgeous, bright graphics and colors, and I’m also curious to see if the remake will simply be just that – an opportunity for fans to relive a classic with all of its charming quirks intact – or if this remake will surprise us with some changes thrown into the mix. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing some changes, and maybe the one I would want to see the most is Marin being Link’s ally for the game.
Marin is endearing, and while I enjoy her role plenty in the original game, having her around for the entire journey would be incredibly fun. Not only would Link be a saint because Marin would never let him steal anything, I think it would be a great way to give her character more depth. Marin’s desires to explore the world as a seagull is already great, and I think having her along for the journey across the island as Link’s guide could reinforce that even more. She knows the island like the back of her hand, but does she know all of its secrets? Are there some things that are new even for her? What if Marin could be in the pictures with Link, and he could give her extra copies? I don’t expect her to participate in any dungeoneering or fighting, per se (maybe a navigator like Navi, but less annoying), but I would be content just having her around for exploring the overworld. What do you think? Would you want Marin to travel with Link in the remake of Link’s Awakening? Let us know in the comments!
