Everyone has a favorite Zelda game, and you probably hold some strong feelings about your favorite entry in the Zelda series. So do a lot of our staff here at Zelda Dungeon. At our most recent Writer’s Meeting it became apparent that Skyward Sword is a favorite among many of the writers here. There are some who have some major complaints against Skyward Sword and there are others that don’t like it at all. It sparked an exciting back and forth discussion about the game, and that lead me to wonder, is Skyward Sword the most divisive Zelda game?

Originally I thought Twilight Princess or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was the most divisive based upon conversations I’ve had with others in the past, but now I’m not so sure. Personally, I have not completed Skyward Sword in its entirety. I was one of those players who outright hated the motion controls and put the game down content not to play this entry in the series. I can’t say that I hate the game, but I hated the way it was presented without an option for a button only mode. I am excited for the HD remake though, and once I complete the game I will give it a final judgement.

In recent weeks I’ve seen arguments that Skyward Sword’s story is weak, a button only mode won’t fix the gameplay, and that the general experience isn’t as fun as compared to other games in the series. From what I’ve noticed you either love Skyward Sword or you don’t. I’ve seldom seen any gamers are neutral about it. I know that there are a few like myself who have either only partially played it, or haven’t played it at all, so I am looking forward to finally giving Skyward Sword a proper play through. I am approaching it with an open mind because right now I have no reason to hate the game as a whole, or the story even. I really just hated the motion controls, and I plan on playing without them. I’m familiar enough with the story to be enticed to The Sky, so I look forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.

What do you think? Is Skyward Sword the most divisive Zelda game, why or why not? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
