When people talk about items or spells in the Legend of Zelda series, what usually comes to mind? The Master Sword or the Hookshot? Perhaps the powerful Champion abilities acquired in Breath of the Wild? Those all seem like the most iconic, obvious choices. But so rarely do I ever hear anyone talk about one of my favourite items in Ocarina of Time, a little-known spell called Farore’s Wind.

Farore’s Wind is an optional spell in Ocarina of Time that can be acquired from a Fairy Fountain nearby the Ice Cavern. The spell can only be used in dungeons, but essentially it allows you to create a warp point in any room. Simply cast the spell after going through a door and you can return there in the blink of an eye.

Why is this spell so amazing? Three words: quality of life. The number of times I’ve had to backtrack through rooms to complete various objectives or because I died to a boss far into the depths of a dungeon are countless. Farore’s Wind alleviates the frustrations of these moments. You could also use the item if you need to leave a dungeon to grab Fairies or upgrades and return right where you left off, similar to the Oocoo item in Twilight Princess. It’s such a simple tool that has so much potential when used correctly. And don’t even get me started on how amazing this spell can be in the world of speedrunning.

So why has this item never returned in later Zelda games? I can think of so many games that would benefit from Farore’s Wind or something similar. I feel that there’s a lot of potential for the spell to come back in future titles.

Do you use Farore’s Wind in your Ocarina of Time playthroughs? Would you like to see something similar brought back in Tears of the Kingdom next May? Let us know in the comments below!
