Recently it was announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was getting a re-release for the Nintendo Switch. The game was the sixteenth mainline installment that featured beautiful art and music. Despite the aesthetically pleasant nature of the game, it sits on my list as one of the Zelda games I have never played. I know I’m not alone in this either, so if you have never completed Skyward Sword, what is your reason?

Originally developed and published for the Wii in November 2011, Skyward Sword featured the system’s motion controls as the preferred way to play. At a whopping 12 years old, I was extremely excited to play the newest Zelda game, as I had been a dedicated fan since I was old enough to hold a controller. When I set out to play the game, I found myself incredibly overwhelmed with the clunkiness of the motion controls. I didn’t make it very far in the game at that time, and since then I have returned to Skyward Sword a few times. Each time I’ve played, I have found the motion controls to be the bane of my existence.

I find that, when talking to some of the other people on the Zelda Dungeon staff, there are those who absolutely love and swear by Skyward Sword, and others who also share the same experience as me. It’s been difficult to find someone who dislikes the game for a different reason other than the terrible control system.

With the recent news of the game getting a remaster for the Switch, I am beyond excited to finally play a game that I’ve had my eye on for about a decade. Knowing that I can sit down and experience the journey for the first time without having to worry about how my sword slashes makes the game even more attractive, in my opinion.

What about you? If you haven’t completed Skyward Sword, what is the reason? And if you did finish the game, what was your main quell with it, if anything? Let us know in the comments below!
