The Legend of Zelda is a series with an abundance of amazing characters. In the past thirty years, many memorable characters have played a role in the long-running video game franchise. Some names from the series are new creations, while others take inspiration from cultures and people across history. Most famously, the eponymous princess’s name was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

With this in mind, if you were to name one of your future children after a Zelda character, what name would you choose? Would you choose the name of a key character, like Link and Zelda? Or would you chose something more obscure from a side character, like Groose? With the popularity of Breath of the Wild, it feels like Sidon, Mipha, and Revali might be popular names for children whose parents played the 2017 Zelda game. I even wonder if there anyone who would name their child Ganon or Ganondorf. Or would that decision doom their child to a life of future villainy?

One character I really liked was Ilia, who is Link’s female friend in Twilight Princess. I previously wrote an editorial about the character and I think Ilia is a beautiful name for a child. Another favorite of mine is Daruk. It would be nice to endow a child with the lovable and optimistic spirit of the Goron Champion from Breath of the Wild.
