There are only a few direct sequels in the Zelda series. Immediately coming to mind would be Majora’s Mask and Phantom Hourglass. These two games were excellent followups to their predecessors, though one was obviously more widely appreciated than the other. The point, though, is that we haven’t received too many sequels throughout this franchise, and I still haven’t quite decided whether that is a good or bad thing.

If I were to choose a game that I’d like to see a direct sequel to, it would have to be Breath of the Wild. When Ocarina of Time was released, fans were amazed by how big Hyrule was and how much time they could spend exploring every corner. Then Majora’s Mask gave us Termina, an entirely new region to explore. I think that Breath of the Wild could do something similar. If you have ever walked along the edges of the map, there are clearly other places that could be inhabited, another “Termina” so to say. It would be interesting to see a story continued after the defeat of Calamity Ganon, in which Zelda might want to explore the wider world and would need to have Link either come along or send him on his own as she probably would have to stay behind as the royal figure rebuilding Hyrule. Perhaps a new enemy could take advantage of Ganon’s disappearance to rise up and cause trouble, and we’d be given a new world, new villages, new people, other races that might have been left out of this game, and an all new terrain to play through.

But that’s all just me. What do you guys think? Would you like to see a Breath of the Wild sequel? Or is there a different game you’d want to play if the story continued? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
