The CD-i games have been a longstanding joke of the Zelda series. In fact, several Zelda memes originated from them. Before I spent some time with this group of proud and true Zelda fans, it seemed that alot of the discussions I’ve ever been a part of when it came to these games had been largely negative. However, I completely disagree with those negative views, and I don’t think Nintendo realizes that these games are actually pure gold.

Let’s say Nintendo decides to release these games on the Switch; I’m completely convinced that Zelda fans would actually buy them, despite the common consensus that they are terrible. For one, you have the collectors to think about. Not every Zelda fan was around during the age of these CD-i games. Nintendo is great about Zelda remakes and porting older games to the newer consoles, making it easier for Zelda fans to get their hands on all their favorite games, if not all of them as a collection. I can see collectors and completionists pulling out their wallets at the sound of a ported collection in a second.

Another thing to consider is that not everyone has played these games, and probably want to see for themselves if they are as bad as everyone says they are. Having only played portions of these games myself, it definitely is an experience, and I’m super excited to be able to say that I’ve played them, and they’re great! It’s especially a fun time when you experience these games with other Zelda enthused friends, so I see another opportunity that Nintendo can take advantage of. The one where fans can finally experience these games first hand for themselves.

What do you think, though? Would you want to get your hands on a collection of the CD-i games if Nintendo decided to release such a thing in the future? Or are these games just too out there and you’d rather leave them in the past as a bad memory? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
