It’s well known in the Zelda community that the titular character is, well, a princess, literally. In many games, we meet or acknowledge in some fashion the presence of a King, who is typically Zelda’s father. There is undoubtedly an implied sense of monarchy here as the primary form of government in Hyrule, not just for Hylians, but virtually every other cultural group.

Except, on the more local level, we’ve seen a more democratic form of government. The example that comes to mind is the Mayoral Election side adventure from Tears of the Kingdom. Regardless of whether or not this is an anomaly, it opens up the possibility of such elections existing elsewhere in the Zelda universe. Perhaps, in the future, a Gerudo leader might empower the voice of her people with their opportunity to choose a new chief. Maybe the River Zora and Sea Zora form an overarching government with competing political parties.

The question isn’t directed towards these smaller groups, though, but to the whole Kingdom: what character would most likely get elected to lead a democratic Hyrule?

Hudson comes to mind as a man of the people who represents labor and dedication to building a better world, but I don’t think he has the “politics” in him to run (his wife might encourage it, though!). A friendly but confident Goron leader like Yunobo could make a strong push to run. Then there’s Purah, with her pragmatism and charm. However, I’ve got to give my vote to Malo. He’s young and has an entrepreneurial spirit, but also cares about others and the infrastructure of the land.

What do you think? If Hyrule was a democracy, who would you vote for, and who do you think would win? Cast your ballot in the comments below!

(And please, keep it Hyrule-focused! No need to bring real-world politics into this. Thanks!)
