Here at Zelda Dungeon, we do a feature every month to add some variation to our every day content. During the month of March, Zelda Dungeon hosts Musical March Madness in homage to the NCAA’s March Madness. Throughout the month, participants narrow down 32 epic Legend of Zelda themes and scores to just one winner. With the tracks coming from across all Zelda games, new and old, there are bound to be some that hit close to home. But when trying to choose the winner, how much does nostalgia factor in for you?

As I was choosing between the songs for each bracket, I was choosing what I thought reflected the popular opinion. As I was making these choices, I used two factors: nostalgia and YouTube views. While I did look at which song had more views on YouTube, I ultimately used sentimentality as my guide. I figured that classic themes from Ocarina of Time would prove to be more popular than newer soundtracks in Age of Calamity. There are also some spin-off games that I didn’t believe would hold up against more popular mainstream games, like The Wind Waker.

As you go about the month of March, participating in Musical March Madness, do you find nostalgia to be playing a part in your musical choices? If so, how much does that influence your overall winner? Will your winner be from your favorite Zelda game prevail? Or will it be one that reminds you of the summer where you binge-played Majora’s Mask? I tried to give some benefit of the doubt to newer titles that have some wonderful scores, but ultimately I believe that some of the original themes that we grew up with will prove to be more popular in the end.

What do you think of the contenders for this year’s Musical March Madness? Which song holds the most nostalgia for you? Let us know in the comments below!
